A work between mother and daughter
Materials: Velcro, projector
Dimensions: variable_ projection
With the collaboration of
GIL MONTEVERDE and AMÉLIA MARINHO
The project emerged from a conversation between me and Gil Monteverde. We were talking about using the material Velcro for some future project. I took this idea and started making two jackets with this material.
To produce the jackets I had to work in a manufacture, fortunately my mother has one at home, full of machines that I could work with.
I started visiting my parents’ house more often because my atelier was located there, which created a stronger bond between my mother and I.
It started to be a project between mother and daughter.
The final work is a video-performance that demonstrates our interaction with the jackets, and a series of coincidences that emerged: the coat my mom was wearing spoiled faster than mine every time we used it. Whenever we hugged my coat was still intact while hers needed constant repair, I found this coincidence poetic, it became my intention to present a work that shows the relationship between mother and daughter.
